SHARED SPACES OF THE IMAGES
The tour of the exhibition “Shared Spaces of the Image” held at the FIESP Photo Gallery from November 7, 2018 to January 13, 2019, in the city of São Paulo, presents the photograph from its intersection with other languages, speeches and media.
The series selected by curators Guilherme Cunha and Bruno Vilela propose reflections on current issues such as consumption, relationship with work, mourning, the limits between the real and the imaginary.
The choice of works is the result of a research project developed by the Belo Horizonte International Photography Festival (FIF), which since 2013 promotes discussions on photographic production and the construction of meanings through images. “Our proposal is to reflect on the creative processes of image construction and how photography dialogues with other narratives and discourse constructions”, explains one of the curators of the exhibition, Guilherme Cunha.
The exhibition also aims to show the public how the importance of understanding the role of images in political constructions is directly linked to the possibility of criticizing and recreating them. “Our intention in bringing these works to São Paulo is to show how the production of meaning about images depends a lot on the relations of power and plurality. In other words, the way in which we interpret what we see is crossed by relations of power and symbolism, about which we do not always reflect or question ”, explains Bruno Vilela.
