A comunidade vê desenrolar-se, diante dos olhos, sua história, dita por suas próprias palavras, experiência capaz de alimentar uma nova consciência e talvez, uma certa forma de resiliência.
The Worlds In The Making project is about a place and about people telling their stories. Images depicting collective experiences and significant events for communities that share local stories through a creative process of collaboration. In each place, the artist promotes exchanges with residents to build collective photographic images. Nicolas Henry pays special attention to personal anecdotes, dreams or collective wrath, daily difficulties or transformational initiatives, weaving a universe around a story he has been told, and proposes his resolution in crafted form. For the production of these iconic images, scenarios and staging are created – “giant sculptures” – built by hand with members of the community. An intense activity is established where each one does his part, adding efforts, and connecting the special abilities of every one. Everything becomes essential to build these “stage-like sculptures” that embody the story to be performed for the local audience and for Henry’s camera, like a big theater that will be photographed. When the time comes, the buzz of an event is about to happen. Each scene in the picture is lit successively, gradually narrating the story. The community sees its story unfolding before the eyes, narrated in its own words, perhaps an experience capable of fostering a new awareness and perhaps, a certain form of resilience.
